Kingdom Calm is a wonderful deck for children, created by Brianna Rose, LMHC, RYT, with vibrantly colored illustrations by Nicole Jane De Barber, designed to assist children in learning practices that help to regulate their nervous system and promote emotional wellbeing. I have had my own children try this deck and they absolutely love it! The illustrations are kid-friendly and the colors are fun. The practices are easy to follow and offer kids the opportunity to develop autonomy and self-regulation in a way that feels a lot like play.
The cards are color-coated into three categories with dominant emotional states assigned to each. This allows your child to pick the right card associated with the emotion they are feeling. For example, blue/green cards are best for when your child is feeling nervous, the yellow cards for when they report feeling worried and the red cards for when they are overwhelmed.
From the creator, "This deck was created with the intention of promoting connection and co-regulation—improving a child’s understanding of what is necessary to calm themselves by not only practicing the exercises in the deck, but by experiencing their caretaker’s emotions and nervous system regulate alongside theirs.
The goal is twofold: to increase a child’s capacity to lovingly and compassionately meet themselves when dysregulated, and then to go forward with the ability and willingness to connect with you and the world around them with that same sense of love, compassion, and centeredness."
